16GB iPhone 5: Is It Too Little?

Friday, August 30, 2013

There was no big surprise when Apple revealed the fact that they would be releasing the new iPhone 5 in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions. However is there any point to Apple offering a 16GB version, would anyone want a 16GB version, when the iPhone doesn’t have SD support and how much richer media and apps are getting? Let’s find out.

16GB iPhone 5: can you still get by on the cheapest iPhone model?

16GB iPhone 5: If you are not into downloading many games from the Apple App Store and you don’t store movies on your handset or your entire music library, then 16GB might be ample space for you. On the other hand if you want to take full advantage of the 8 megapixel camera that takes video at the resolution of 1080p then you would find that your 16GB gets filled up pretty fast if you don’t move your videos to your computer. Therefore the only people who would find that 16GB is enough, is those who only use the device to call, browse the web, send emails and constantly transfer their media out.

32GB iPhone 5: Of course the iPhone is an expensive device and so many people who buy it want it as their main device. This means they want to watch movies in HD on the Retina display and they want to play games and store their music library on the handset. If this is the case then 16GB is certainly not enough and you would need at least 32GB. This way you would also have room for photos and videos taken with the 8 megapixel camera.

64GB iPhone 5: Then there are other people who want to download anything and everything from the App Store and keep a large amount of music, videos, photos and podcasts on the handset. If this sounds like you then 64GB is what is needed. Bear in mind that it doesn’t hurt to have storage left over, but you cannot add storage onto the device if you run out later. So if you can spare the extra cash go for the 64GB as there is no telling just how much richer apps are going to get as developers begin to take advantage of the faster processor and GPU, as well as the 16:9 format display.
