Android App Revenues Inch Closer to Apple; Why is iPhone 5S Going To Fall …

Friday, August 30, 2013

App revenues for Google’s Android may break records and reach a whopping $6.8 billion; twice as much as the last year’s numbers, a report from the ABI research claims.

Sounds like a lot? Well, probably not, because this revenue makes up for just 60 percent of the total revenue made by Apple by its app downloads.

“Apple’s iOS still leads all the other mobile operating systems’ revenues by a significant margin; however, the greater number of Android smartphones in use is clawing back Apple’s lead in this market,” Josh Flood, Senior Analyst at the ABI, explained. “This year, Android smartphones will ship by a factor of more than three-to-one to iPhones.”

Though Apple may be the clear winner among them all, the ABI is anticipating an increase in the Android app revenues from 59.1 percent to 65.9 percent in the next 12 months.

The open source approach by Android is probably what makes it more appealing to carriers. What’s the best reason why Google’s Android is making its way to a stronger, better position is its experience in online advertising. Targeted in-app advertisements for the audiences is probably the key strategy and is probably why Android is making a major turnaround.

This is even more significant considering that around 90 percent of the apps available on Android’s app store are now free, and they make money basically through in-app ads.

What’s more, Android can now expect a surge in the number of app downloads from its market thanks to the new BBM for Android, which is soon to be let out.

“BBM for Android and iPhone is here,” BlackBerry’s blog CrackBerry, recently declared.

Though Apple’s iOS still leads the other operating systems, with Google OS powering a good majority of smartphones being pocketed today, Apple should now expect a strong contender in the near future.
