BitTorrent released a Sync app for Apple’s iOS platform

Sync, BitTorrent’s file-synchronization service, was released to the public in April and has now gone mobile. On the iOS app, users will be able to move videos, photos, and other files from their iOS devices to their laptops and vice versa. The app also allows users to send photos and videos from their iPhone directly to their friends’ iPhone using mobile-to-mobile sending. The app lets users automatically backup photos from their Camera Roll to a folder on their computer. The app will set up a default folder but you can set the photos to a previously created folder by scanning a QR code on the other device with the iPhone’s camera.

BitTorrent launched an Android app last month after Sync moved from Alpha to Beta status. Sync launched with apps for Windows, OSX, Linux PCs, and a Web interface. Sync works similarly to file sync and storage services like Dropbox or iCloud but without the third-party server and without data restrictions. Since Sync functions without the third-party server, it is more secure for users. The data is encrypted during transfers and only the user has access to their data. BitTorrent emphasized that, unlike its competitors, BitTorrent Sync was specifically designed to deal with large files and it encouraged Sync users to sync original, high-quality, uncompressed files since the system could handle it and the files would stay safe. While BitTorrent Sync is free, there is also a paid version available which BitTorrent said is aimed toward enterprises and power users.
