Free Apps Roundup for August 30, 2013

This week on the Free Apps Roundup: Need to sync files to your iPhone, and iPad, and iPod touch? BitTorrent Sync is an app that can sync files across all of your devices. All of your information is transmitted securely and never gets stored in the cloud. If you’re a Madden fan, you may or may not be excited about the latest game in the franchise for iOS. Believe it or not it’s been 25 years of Madden. That’s worth a download, right? Apple’s App of the Week is Cut the Rope, and it’s a must-have puzzle game for everyone; it’s tons of casual gaming fun. Now go check out the list and download some apps!

The Top Three Free Apps:

• BitTorrent Sync – If you’ve ever wanted to sync an unlimited number of files and folders of any size across all of your devices, you are in luck. This app can do all that, plus it makes sending files between devices easy, and will even backup your Camera Roll to a folder on your computer. File transfers are encrypted and protected by private keys, and you don’t have to worry about your stuff being stored in the cloud. Why? Because it won’t be stored in the cloud.


• Madden NFL 25 – 25 years of experience has culminated with this game for iOS. You can build your ultimate team, choose from 32 real NFL teams and a roster of more than 1,500 real players. The graphics, gameplay, and stadiums are even more realistic than ever. In fact, for that true stadium experience, EA has built in tons of in-app purchases to take every last penny you have.


• Cut the Rope – This is probably one of the most fun casual games on the App Store. The goal is simple; feed Omnom. Omnom is a monster that loves to eat candy. For some reason, candy is suspended in various puzzles that you have to manipulate, and eventually you’ll have to cut the rope on which the candy hangs. If it drops in Omnom’s mouth, you’re good to go. It’s Apple’s app of the week, and I have to agree. This is a great choice.

Free Apps:

• Parallels Access – Up front, this app is free, but the service is not. It’s an app that can make your desktop applications seem like they belonged on your iPad all along. You can try the service for free for 14 days to see if you like it.


• Chromecast – Bought a Chromecast? This app lets you set it up on your Wi-Fi network and manage other settings with your iPhone.


• Super Brothers – I cannot imagine what this game is inspired by, but if you like retry side scrolling platformers, you might like this game.

Free Apps for a Limited Time:

• Grid Diary – This may be the easiest way to keep a diary yet. You don’t even need to think of what to write about because the app will prompt you with some questions to get you started. All of this can be personalized too.


• Episodes – New episodes of your favorite TV shows are just around the corner. This app will help you keep it all straight. There are show times, episode listings and even episode summaries and screen captures. The app can even send you a notification when your shows are about to air.


• DailyCost – Keep track of your expenses with this simple yet elegant app. But don’t let the interface fool you, it has tons of features, including statistic, CSV exporting and backups to iCloud.


• Bullet Sky II – This is another top down aerial shooter. The graphics are great with 60fps. Basically, shoot everything that moves. Also the stuff that doesn’t move. And the other stuff.


• Pinball HD – This is still one of my favorite games for iOS. It’s a pinball simulator for iPad. There are three wonderful pinball tables and endless amounts of fun. Plus you can buy more tables in the game.


• Cut the Rope HD – The same as above, for iPad.
